UNDER THE BATHROOM SINK

This can be a tricky space to keep organized. There are a lot of products and a lot categories of products, some of which are needed everyday and some only seldom used. This is also an area that I think items tend to make their way to the back and live passed their expiration, especially those that are not used very often. Which makes this a great space to clean out and take on as an organization project! But I will say, I think it is helpful to invest in products for this space because there are so many items to organize and once you have the products then the task of keeping it organized is much easier. I tried to come up with a system that works with my needs- keeping my daily items easily accessible and also keeping like items together and easy to find.

  • Make sure to measure your dimensions and account for pipes, awkward angles, and differing depths and heights.

  • Take everything out and clean the cabinet. Make sure you check the expiration dates on beauty products, cosmetics, and medicine. Put all of the remaining items in categories (i.e., face, hair, medicine, travel, cleaning, first aid, extras). This is also great to know what you need to replenish! Here are the categories I used (including items I moved to drawers):

    • Hair

    • Face

    • Every day

    • Travel

    • Makeup

    • Feminine products

    • Nails

    • Medicine

    • Extras/surplus

    • First aid

    • Cleaning supplies

  • From the items you have left to put back under the sink, decide on containers to organize the products. I prefer to hold off ordering products until I know what items I have left and what is in each category (see my earlier post- Organization Process ). Doing this adds one tiny baby step (putting items back temporarily until the products arrive), but I do think it is more efficient because you already know what you will need. I threw out and recycled so many products that this space required less containers than I initially thought I would need.

  • TIP: If using clear, acrylic containers, try putting museum gel on the bottom of containers to keep them from sliding around. Works with acrylic drawer organizers, too! (linked here)

Here is what I used (and honestly, I love and recommend all of these products):

  1. Storage containers for larger items, such as lotion bottles, and cleaning supplies (linked here)

  2. Museum gel (a little goes a long way) (linked here)

  3. Clear, stackable drawers (6 3/4 in. tall, come in set of two) (linked here)

  4. Vanity organizer (I used this for easy access items, like nail products and my assortment of face masks) (linked here)

  5. Wide drawer, 12” wide (I used for taller items that did not fit in the larger stackable drawers) (linked here)
