IKEA HACK- MALM DRESSER DUPE

I found a dresser I loved for this room, but I did not like the price (around $4,000). I found a few other dressers I liked, but with shipping delays and backordered furniture, I decided to try to make a dupe. I built a base and added legs and hardware, and voilà!

Here is the IKEA MALM dresser ($259.99):

Here is the look I was going for:

I added a base using 2x2s of Select Pine to give the IKEA dresser a little more dimension, and then I added some hardware to the drawers (similar linked here). To support the base, I attached scrap 2x4s to the underside of the dresser so that the base could have support all the way around the dresser. I used wood glue, finishing nails, and pocket holes to attach the base and feet. I chose to make the legs 3 inches, which including the frame of the base added about 4.5 inches of height to the dresser. *I also put two hidden legs in the middle of the dresser to make sure the weight of the dresser was supported. Then, I used wood filler and sanded the seams to make it look like the base was always a part of the dresser, followed by primer and paint to match the dresser. Please remember to always secure furniture to the wall! IKEA MALM dressers come with everything you need to affix it to the wall.

All in all, the cost of this dresser dupe was probably about $400 (dresser, wood, paint and supplies, and hardware).

I am very happy with the way this dupe turned out! What do you think??
